#NACIONAL | Rodney Scott, titular de la Agencia de Vigilancia Fronteriza y Aduanas (CBP, por sus siglas en inglés), declaró que el gobierno de Estados Unidos planea concluir el muro fronterizo que divide el territorio con México a finales del 2027.
Esa muralla de vigas de metal reforzado, que irá de San Diego hasta el Golfo de México excepto en algunos tramos, será reforzada por medidas de vigilancia electrónica y otros dispositivos, que podrían estar instalados hacia mediados de 2028, añadió este responsable en un evento organizado por el Centro para Estudios sobre la Inmigración (CIS, por sus siglas en inglés).
A causa del amplio despliegue policial contra la inmigración irregular, que causó graves incidentes en ciudades como Los Ángeles o Minneapolis, la oposición demócrata consiguió paralizar durante meses las operaciones de cuerpos como la policía migratoria (ICE, en inglés) o la Patrulla Fronteriza.
Pero esas protestas no perturbaron el calendario de obras en la frontera, explicó Scott en el evento.
«La barrera fronteriza básica estará lista hacia finales de 2027, en todas partes», aseguró.
«Los únicos lugares donde no estamos erigiendo la muralla es donde hemos decidido de forma consciente que no lo necesitamos», explicó, como por ejemplo en parques naturales muy agrestes y aislados, en estados como Nuevo México.
«Estamos construyendo cerca de 10 kilómetros diarios, ya hemos realizado unos 177 km desde el inicio de la administración», enumeró.
«Estamos por delante del calendario y por debajo del presupuesto», aseguró Scott.
Toda la parte del Río Grande (Río Bravo en México), con más de dos mil kilómetros de longitud entre ambos países, contará con sus propias barreras físicas.
El objetivo de la muralla fronteriza, que algunos observadores consideraban inicialmente un éxito limitado, es impedir no sólo el paso de indocumentados, sino de narcóticos.
En ambos rubros los indicadores oficiales muestran una caída apreciable del contrabando.
La Patrulla Fronteriza no ha liberado a ningún inmigrante irregular dentro del país desde hace un año, aseguró recientemente el presidente estadunidense, Donald Trump.
Pero el aumento de las barreras físicas conlleva otros peligros, como los túneles y los drones, reconoció Scott.
«Estamos viendo a drones que vuelan a lo largo del Río Grande, vigilando y grabando a nuestro personal», explicó.
Y los carteles «también están introduciendo drogas con drones», explicó.
