#VERACRUZ | Industriales de Estados Unidos, España, Colombia y Bélgica quieren coco veracruzano, señala Jorge Enrique García del Ángel, coordinador de la Cooperativa Costas Nacionales, con sede en el municipio de Tecolutla, en el norte del estado.
Actualmente, productores de coco se organizan para atender una solicitud de 200 mil piezas mensuales de esa fruta que requiere una empresa de Estados Unidos. Además, industriales de España requieren 100 mil cocos al mes y a Florida, también en Estados Unidos, se mandan 20 mil por semana.
En entrevista, detalla que el proceso de exportación del coco veracruzano no es nuevo ya que desde hace casi un año se envían 100 mil cocos mensuales a República Dominicana y debido a la gran demanda es necesario analizar las solicitudes de Colombia y Bélgica para saber si se podrá cumplir con la solicitud.
El coordinador de la Cooperativa Costas Nacionales dio a conocer que en Veracruz hay sembradas 3 mil hectáreas de coco con una producción mensual de 600 mil piezas, por lo que es necesario recurrir a la adquisición de coco de Guerrero para satisfacer la demanda.
Explica además que los industriales de Estados Unidos «quieren el coco seco y destopado o pelado”, para el pleno aprovechamiento de su agua y pulpa; por lo que a estos clientes se les lleva a la frontera, en Reynosa, Tamaulipas y de ahí ellos se llevan los remolques a Texas.
Mientras tanto, los españoles piden la fruta completa y sería para el aprovechamiento de crema de coco, enfocada en la gastronomía.
En el caso de Estados Unidos, el contrato podría concretarse en al menos dos meses.
Sin embargo, en lo que se refiere a España, Bélgica y Colombia, las pláticas se encuentran en desarrollo y una vez que se confirme que se podrá satisfacer la demanda de esos países, podría firmarse el contrato.
Por cuanto hace al precio del coco, García del Ángel explica que por pieza va de los 10 a los 15 pesos de forma directa, en el mercado local y al tratarse de ventas por toneladas. Sin embargo, el precio para el mercado extranjero puede aumentar un 50% o un poco más, debido a los costos de traslado.
En el caso de la venta a través de establecimientos o puestos, como los que se encuentran a orilla de carretera en zonas costeras, el precio puede alcanzar hasta los 50 pesos por pieza al consumidor, pues algunos los ofertan preparados con chile y limón y el agua a parte.
El precio del coco se mantiene estable en Tecolutla, pues su producción se lleva a cabo de forma local, a través del vivero creado en ese municipio por productores, con recursos propios, manifiesta.
«Veracruz tiene un gran potencial en la producción de coco y los productores cuentan con grandes oportunidades, pues se trata de cultivos con una vida productiva de muchos años», manifiesta.
Incluso, Veracruz podría acaparar los mercados de Estados Unidos y Canadá, además de otros países de Europa; «Veracruz tiene puertos y también puede aprovecharlos», sostiene.
