Las autoridades indicaron que la banda fue investigada por sus «actos de apoyo a una causa política y por desplegar una bandera extranjera» durante su concierto, y que ya no se les permitirá actuar en Singapur.
«La policía se toma muy en serio los actos que puedan perjudicar la armonía râcîâl y religiosa en Singapur e insta al público, incluidos los extranjeros, a abstenerse de introducir política extranjera, ya que esto puede socavar nuestra cohesión social y el Estado de derecho», afirmaron la policía y la autoridad de medios de comunicación en un comunicado conjunto el viernes 31.
Singapur no permite la exhibición pública de emblemas nacionales extranjeros sin permiso o exención, y la bandera palestina es un tema especialmente delicado dada la guerra en Gaza y la población musulmana de Singapur.
En 2023, el Ministerio del Interior declaró: «El actual conflicto entre Israel y Hamás es un tema delicado. Dada la gran sensibilidad que suscita, recomendamos evitar la exhibición pública y el uso de artículos relacionados con el conflicto.
«La paz y la armonía entre las diferentes razas y religiones en Singapur no deben darse por sentadas, y no debemos permitir que los acontecimientos que ocurren en el exterior afecten a esta paz y armonía que tenemos en el país».
La población residente de Singapur es un 74 por ciento china, un 13.6 por ciento malaya y un 9 por ciento india, mientras que un 3.3 por ciento se clasifica como «otros». Alrededor del 15 por ciento son musulmanes.
