Hasta ahora, si querías hablar con alguien en WhatsApp, necesitabas su número sí o sí. Era la única forma de encontrar a alguien. Pero eso está por cambiar, y la idea es que ya no tengas que compartir ese dato personal para poder chatear.
Lo que busca la plataforma es algo más simple y más privado. En lugar de dar tu número, podrás elegir un nombre único, como pasa en otras apps. Así, otras personas podrán encontrarte sin que tengas que exponer tu información.
La función todavía está en pruebas, pero ya se conocen algunos detalles. Cada usuario tendrá que elegir un nombre que no esté ocupado, es decir, será único dentro de la plataforma.
Además, no solo basta con que esté libre en WhatsApp. De acuerdo con información difundida por WABetaInfo, el nombre también deberá estar disponible dentro del ecosistema de Meta, es decir, no puede estar registrado en plataformas como Instagram o Facebook para poder usarse.
También habrá ciertas reglas. No se podrán usar nombres que parezcan páginas web o que puedan confundir a otros usuarios. La idea es evitar fraudes o suplantaciones de identidad.
Una vez configurado, ese nombre será el que aparezca cuando alguien te busque o inicie conversación contigo, dejando en segundo plano el número telefónico.
Por ahora no hay una fecha oficial. WhatsApp sigue probando la función, así que todavía falta para que esté disponible para todos.
Aun así, el hecho de que ya esté en desarrollo deja claro hacia dónde va la app: más privacidad y menos exposición de datos personales.
